WIndows & Doors Brainstorming

When I travel I love to take pictures from airplanes, buses, hotel rooms and anything that has a nice view. I have so many ideas but sometimes I get frustrated with the outcome or how I think the outcome will look . It's hard to find the perfect picture to redraw and incorporate all aspects of the project. I had an idea of drawing the room I stayed in in Senegal but without a picture of it I had to draw from my memory and it was hard to get the spacing right. I also started drawing a view to my back yard from my dining room. Ideas keep flowing out I just need to keep drawing until I feel I have found a picture I am comfortable with

Visiting Artist Hamlett Dobbins

The mutlicolored lines in the middle reminded me of highway snapshots when the lights of the cars are stretched and blurred. I love those kind of pictures and the red and white contrast it well

I immediately fell in love with this picture because the shape reminded me of a lion's mane and lions are my favorite animals. The head also looks like it's in a heart shape and the purple-pinkish color stood out. 

Blindfold Drawings

When Ms.Roberts first handed out the blindfolds I felt a bit of excitement. I had never tried drawing something without being able to see what I was doing. I immediately knew what I wanted to draw and saw my grandparent's house in Brooklyn. I kept hesitating to start because I didn't know where I was on the paper. At that moment I was already a little frustrated. It bothered me that I could not see the outcome of the shapes or landscap and I couldn't adjust it. I just kept going with the flow and let my hands think that it was where I wanted it to be.

After we took our blindfolds off and had to "edit" I was even more annoyed. I felt I had drawn a piece of crap. There was no way I would be able to go back and fine tune this image I thought I was drawing. But

What If?

What if the world had clean water?

A lot of water, but not enough clean water.

Proportion and Perspective

The other day when we were observing and drawing I was surprised at how easily I caught on. At first I just drew a big square and tried to accurately fit the pieces. I tried to make the structure as precise as possible; changing shapes and sizes. I wasn't here for the second observation drawing. I was successful with sketching out the pieces in the right place

Marks Made Drawing

For me this is my first art class in years. I haven't painted, drawn, sketched anything. This activity was perfect to start out with. It was somewhat of a free for all. Splatting paint, drawing lines, and just going crazy. It really comforted my nervousness and made me a bit confident. As the project progressed the assignments got a little bit more trickier.( Taking pieces and making an image and then sketching) This is a terrible thing to say but I see myself as artistically challenged. So I kind of freaked. The confidence boost from earlier helped me get through the sketch. It wasn't really different from any other time besides that I was more focused. The accuracy of what I have so far is most shocking because I have never really been able to draw from eye.
